A Denver Pediatric Office – Building a More Secure, HIPAA-Ready IT Environment

Executive Summary

For a healthcare organization, reliable IT is about more than keeping computers running. Patient information must be protected, employees need responsive support, and leadership needs confidence that the right security and HIPAA safeguards are in place.

A Denver pediatric office came to Business Network Consulting (BNC) with several concerns. They had no local onsite IT support, response and resolution times were slow, and leadership had limited visibility into their technology spending. Most importantly, they did not have a clear understanding of where they stood when it came to HIPAA compliance.

BNC took a comprehensive look at their environment, identified the gaps, and put the technology, security, support, and processes in place to create a more secure and proactively managed IT environment.

Project Highlights

Industry Pediatric Healthcare
Location Denver, Colorado
Challenge Slow IT support, limited visibility, security gaps, and uncertainty around HIPAA compliance
Solution Proactive managed IT, local onsite support, cybersecurity, device management, backup, and HIPAA compliance support
Outcome A more secure, better-managed IT environment with clearer oversight and stronger safeguards for sensitive healthcare information

The Challenge

The pediatric office already had an IT provider, but they didn’t have the level of support, communication, or visibility they needed.

There was no onsite support when hands-on help was required. Support requests could take too long to resolve, and leadership did not have a clear picture of where their IT dollars were going or what was being done to manage their environment.

For a pediatric healthcare organization, however, one of the biggest concerns was HIPAA.

Leadership did not have clear communication about its compliance posture or confidence that the appropriate technology safeguards, policies, and procedures were in place.

At the same time, the practice was already paying for Microsoft 365 Business Premium, which included valuable security and device management capabilities that were not being fully utilized.

There was an opportunity to do much more with the technology they already had.

What BNC Did

BNC started by evaluating the practice’s existing technology, security, and compliance needs. Instead of simply adding more products, the team looked at what the organization already owned, what wasn’t being used, and where important gaps needed to be addressed.

Put Existing Microsoft Tools to Work

BNC configured Microsoft Intune, deployed security policies, and enrolled devices for centralized management.

This allowed the practice to take advantage of security and device management capabilities already included with its Microsoft 365 Business Premium licensing.

Added Proactive Monitoring

BNC implemented NinjaOne to proactively monitor computers and endpoints.

This gave the BNC team greater visibility into the health of the environment and the ability to identify and address potential issues before they became bigger problems.

Strengthened Endpoint Security

BNC added SentinelOne as an additional layer of endpoint security alongside Microsoft Defender, strengthening protection against ransomware, malware, and other cyber threats.

Established Backup & Recovery

The practice did not have an appropriate backup solution in place.

BNC implemented Datto backup to help protect critical business data and provide recovery capabilities if data was lost, damaged, or compromised.

Strengthened Microsoft Cloud Security

BNC configured and deployed Microsoft Azure security policies to improve security and access controls throughout the organization’s Microsoft environment.

Addressed HIPAA Requirements

Technology was only part of the compliance picture.

BNC worked with the pediatric office to help establish the policies, procedures, security protocols, and technology safeguards needed to support HIPAA compliance and better protect sensitive healthcare information.

Just as importantly, leadership gained greater clarity about what was being done, why it mattered, and what was needed going forward.

Brought Support Closer to Home

BNC gave the practice something it had been missing: local IT support.

With both remote and onsite assistance available, the office no longer had to rely solely on a provider that couldn’t be there when hands-on help was needed.

The Difference

Today, this Denver pediatric office has an IT environment that is more proactively managed and better aligned with the security and compliance requirements of a healthcare organization.

Its existing Microsoft investment is being put to better use. Devices are centrally managed. Endpoints are monitored and protected. Data is backed up. Security policies are in place. And leadership has a clearer understanding of its technology and HIPAA responsibilities.

Most importantly, they now have an IT partner that can help manage all of it.
