financial burden resulting from personal injury.
In addition to workers compensation and disability
from a work place injury, the firm can assist with
benefit denials, auto accident claims, wrongful death
suits and other serious injury representation.
The
law firm contacted legal industry IT expert, BNC Systems,
to improve work place proficiencies while supporting
in-house administration with an updated technology
solution. The client identified problems with terminal
services; legal software and database uptime; server performance; and
maintaining the highest level of security for client data.
Our
consulting engineers audited the current network including 16
local workstations and software to design an affordable solution
to accommodate their legal business process. Engineers
suggested migrating information from one Windows SBS
2000 operating system on a stand alone server to two
additional servers. The new HP ML350T with SBS 2003
Windows Server installed would handle applications,
domain and Exchange services. Another HP ML310 with
Windows 2003 R2 installed would handle terminal services
for remote office applications access. A Cisco VPN
(virtual private network) with dedicated PIX 501firewall
was recommended to allow secure remote access to
the network file structure. Additionally, the Smart
UPS 750A battery
backup would provide more effective, clean energy
source to the new server infrastructure. The BNC proposal
addressed operation uptime, network security and remote
availability with consistent backups and disaster recovery.
BNC
solution engineers and McDivitt staff approved the proposal
and together identified milestones and a schedule for client
and server migration. McDivitt’s solution included installing the two
new servers, a network switch upgrade, backup development
and installing terminal services components. SBS 2003
Windows service pack, Exchange, and anti-virus software
was also upgraded in addition to adding the terminal
licensing. To reduce downtime for McDivitt’s
practice management software, BNC coordinated
efforts with the legal software provider to reduce
the size of the database, rebuilt files and set up
terminal services
for users.
Client
data was backed up and new virus protection was deployed
in preparation for the migration which began at 5:00 p.m. Due to the
perseverance of the lead engineer 90% of systems, including core systems
functionality, The McDivitt Law infrastructure
was up and running smoothly by 7:00 a.m. the following
day. BNC engineers were onsite the following day to
address any systems or applications issues due to
the migration and train staff on the new technology solution.

Since the data and services migration, the McDivitt
Law Firm has experienced 100% uptime of the server
infrastructure.BNC implemented standard monitoring
and alerting systems for the law firms’ user community
to maintain server reliability and quick response
for problems that may develop. McDivitt additionally
takes advantage BNC’s
proactive technology planning and training
services to help maximize the firms’ technology ROI.
